Marathia Walk Outside Vivari

About 2 hours. Finally, a loop walk that ends it a wonderful seafood restaurant worthy of the Tuscany walk book! You can do this walk beginning at 6 p.m. and arrive in Vivari in time for dinner. The last 20 minutes is on the main road and not that much fun.

Just on the outskirts of the small fishing village, Vivari (coming from Drepano) you will see a signpost to Marathia on your left. Turn left at the sign and park and walk up the small paved road. You are climbing gently. At every junction bear right. After 30 minutes, or so, you come to the very small village of Marathia. The road turns to dirt. Keep to the right as you pass the church. Above the church (opposite a small white-washed abandoned hut) is a road to the right which you do NOT take. The next track to the right is at the top of the hill where there are some electricity or telephone poles that mark the spot. Turn right here.

This track takes you over the crests of a hill, past an old quarry, and over the ridge behind Vivari. Coming down you have a full view of the coast. By the waterworks building we cut off to the right for 100 meters cross country to avoid two dogs. You then join up with the main coast road. Again, turning to your right, it is about 20 minutes into Vivari.

We have enjoyed both of the restaurants on the sea—Dimitrios and The Mermaid.
